26. GENTLE BEAST – VAMPIRE WITCH REPTILIAN SUPER SOLDIER (…FROM OUTER SPACE) / NEW! 1584 Points
Stoner, Doom, Rock
Basel, Switzerland
Sixteentimes Music

GENTLE BEAST has pretty much added all elements of the Stoner Rock category impressively rolling them into one fat, all bases covered album with VWRSSFOS. Through tribute or a bit of fun, even the name screams Stoner/Doom with maybe the only exclusion being the word ‘bong’. Though nothing is particularly pilfered here, there are sounds of familiarities as well as wonderful spine-tingling moments and arm hair-raising ones alike for fans of the genres. This isn’t to say there’s no originality within, in fact it’s a large component. No doubt you won’t be able to get the incredible groove of ‘Voodoo Hoodoo Space Machine’, nor the chant-like ‘Riding Waves of Karma’ detached from your skull. VWRSSFOS is a ridiculously fun album with a high re-playability factor, and you may find yourself listening to it back-to-back.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)

25. CRUZEIRO – HIC SUNT DRACONES / NEW!
1610 Points
Doom, Occult Rock
A Coruna, Spain
La Rubia Producciones

On Hic Sunt Dracones, CRUZEIRO delivers an occult heavy, psychedelic brand of doom that, rather than subscribing primarily to the low and slow trudge of many of their counterparts, has a barreling cadence, giving plenty of nods to traditional heavy metal along the way. This gives their sound a deliciously sinister but thoroughly engaging epicness, a devilish tome conjured from centuries past. To top it all off, CRUZEIRO boasts a most commanding enchantress of a vocalist whose powerful and haunting odes will leave you utterly spellbound.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)

24. FAT GRASS – FAT GRASS / NEW!
1610 Points
Stoner Metal, Doom Metal
Córdoba, Argentina
Self-released

FAT GRASS don’t so much reinvent the wheel as much as they grind it to a fine dust before rollin’, lightin’ up, and addle their brains one hefty riff at a time. Born of herb, of fire, of something pure and primal, billowing pillars of smoke so dense even planets could balance upon their summits tower upward from deep within the bowels of the Argentine heartland, unleashing plumes of noxious fumes high into the atmosphere, and invading every lungful inhaled by those trapped within the vicinity. Lumbering from the depths of the Earth, these colossi have but one goal on their mind: the total destruction of mind, body and soul, leaving those behind trembling in a heady daze . Yessir, this ain’t no ordinary roving caravan! By no small miracle, FAT GRASS have levelled the land the way their previous two outings restrained from. The rugged bastions of which the trio have effortlessly moulded tolerate very little in their path; and yet, for all its primitive yet rampant obliteration, this eponymous third outing hides an otherworldly transcendence deep within it’s cavernous shadows. But don’t get too lost searching for some deeper meaning here: linger around for the likes of Rayo Blanco or El Brujo y El Tiempo to bring these pillars crashing down and you’ll be breathing in far more than whatever is in yer fattie.
~ JC Cansdale-Cook (The MotorFuzzin’ Ibex)

23. AMAMMOTH – DISTANT SKIES AND THE OCEAN FLIES / NEW!
1650 Points
Stoner, Sludge, Doom Metal
Sydney, Australia
Electric Valley Records

Sydney’s stoner-sludge/doom metal trio AMAMMOTH burrow through the muddy, unexplored depths of the ocean with robust, bludgeoning and aggressive riffs to unearth crazy alien life forms and conspiracy theories of the sea and galaxies far, far away. The pain-racked, gravelly-throated vocal organ and the constantly quivering, floating drum-fils crawl through classic 90s sludge metal, scraping over sharp-edged rock riffs of stoner-doom beyond the 2000s. The clash of raw bluntness and fine, multi-layered, atmospheric details force a distorted, musical backdrop. Lost in thought, the ear of the eager listener wanders along hellish paths that seem to lie beyond human imagination …
~ Mel Lie (Sunday’s Heavy Tunes)

22. CALYCES – FLESHY WAVES OF PROBABILITY / NEW!
1863 Points
Prog Metal, Alternative Metal, Sludge
Athens Greece
Self-released

Drop the needle/push the button or do whatever you do to listen to your music and then be prepared to be taken aback because CALYCESFleshy Waves of Probability” is an album guaranteed to both astound and amaze, an album packed to the rafters with complex and innovative grooves that are parts thundering and crushing and parts convoluted and intricate. Fans of Mastodon, Huntsmen, Baroness and Boss Keloid get ready to embrace your new favourite band.
~ Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist)

21. PYRES – YUN / NEW!
2178 Points
Sludge Metal
Toronto, Canada
Hypaethral Records

Toronto’s sorcerors of Sludge PYRES return with the follow-up to their widely-acclaimed debut “Year Of Sleep” with “YUN“: Embellishing the sound and savagery with 7 tracks of feral Metal that showcases their progression and songsnithing skill!
~ Stevie Reek (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed & Stoned,Stoner HiVe)

20. SYKOFANT – RED SUN / NEW!
2310 Points
Progressive Rock, Experimental, Heavy Psych
Oslo, Norway
Sycophantastic Records

Love it when modern bands emit a nostalgic aura of jazzy fuzz, reminiscent of Pink Floyd in the heyday of the 70s. This is some intoxicating progressive rock and I’m completely smitten with it. FFO Elder, Pink Floyd, New Keepers Of The Water Towers, etc.
~ Bucky Brown (The Ripple Effect)

19. AN EVENING WITH KNIVES – END OF TIME / NEW!
2327 Points
Post Metal, Sludge
Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Argonauta Records

End of Time, the third full-length album from post-metal trio AN EVENING WITH KNIVES can best be described in two words: raw and unfettered. End of Time delivers the crushingly heavy sound threaded with mind-bending psychedelia we know and love from the band, as well as their powerfully expressive vocal delivery. However, End of Time is so much more than a metal album, it’s a thought-provoking transformational journey on which the inner turmoil, personal reconciliation, and renewal are deeply felt by the listener. This album bleeds with not only brutal intensity, but with an unrestrained authenticity.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)

18. THE DEATH WHEELERS – THE ECSTASY OF MÖLD / NEW!
2532 Points
Instrumental, Punk, Stoner, Doom
Quebec, Canada
RidingEasy Records

The best soundtrack to the greatest fictional b-movie about an evil biker gang is here, and it is the new record from Quebec instrumental grime dealers THE DEATH WHEELERS. The Ecstasy Of Möld is thirty minutes chock full of dirty-ass rippers that are part Motörhead, part Cramps, part Easy Rider Soundtrack, part early White Zombie, with zero parts vocals that you don’t miss since these guys can tell a story and set the vibe with just their instruments and a few obscure and old move clips. Fun, fast, and filthy.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip)

17. MASTERS OF REALITY – THE ARCHER / NEW!
2907 Points
Stoner Rock, Classic Rock, Psych
Palm Desert, CA, USA
Mascot Records

After years in the wilderness, the godfather of the desert, the man responsible for the albums without which this scene probably doesn’t exist, the master of reality himself, Mr. Chris Goss is back with his best album since at least 2001’s Deep in the Hole. And really, that’s all you should need to hear. If you’re not already hip to the near transcendental melding of riffs, harmony vocals, and that extra pinch of desert magic that Goss and his various and sundry collaborators have been dishing out for over 35 years now, here’s your formal, written invitation to get hip to it.
~ Ben Bellum (The Greatest Thing You’ve Never Heard)

16. OUTER HEAD – EREVOS / NEW!
3165 Points
Doom, Psychedelic Rock
Leeds, UK
Self-released

Punky Doom, with heavy psyche elements always turns my (outer) head. This album grabbed me immediately and I loved every second of it from start to finish. Fuzzy and raw, this is some garage doom that warms my old punk heart. Serious riffs rule the album, and snarly clean lyrics keep the energy at the highest level. OUTER HEAD sounds like they might rip your head off and laugh while they do it. There is crossover here that makes me smile. A hard rocker that never lets up, take this one out for a fast car ride on an open road and blast it on 11!
~ S Patrick Brooks (The Heavy Underground Farm Report, Outlaws of the Sun)

15. CABOOSE – LEFT FOR DUST / NEW!
3961 Points
Hard Rock, Stoner Rock
Stockholm, Sweden
Majestic Mountain Records

If you crave some good old fuzzy stoner/desert rock look no further. This has major Fu Manchu/Brant Bjork/Palm Desert California vibes but don’t get me wrong, this is no knock off or imitation but rather the real deal authentic product. What I really like is the awesome guitar parts here. After all that’s what is important in good rock n roll isn’t it? Even better yet these are young dudes rockin’ out hard which is always good to see. It makes me feel good to see the youth keeping the fires burning strong. Play it loud.
~ Andy Kovalcik (Bandcamp-NYP-Hard&Heavy)

14. DAEVAR – SUB ROSA / NEW!
4455 Points
Doom, Grunge
Cologne, Germany
The Lasting Dose Records

Showing an evolution in their sound and presenting more melodic songs, DAEVAR consolidates their position as a band to watch in the European doom scene. In just over half an hour, the trio immerses us in a soundscape where the softness of their vocal melodies takes center stage in a ceremony filled with psychedelic fuzz amidst thick lysergic mists. With many reminiscences of the alternative echoes of the 90s, their tracks delve into ethereal atmospheres where their monolithic riffs crackle amid dreamy chants.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)

13. IGUANAHEAD – LIZARDCORE / NEW!
4560 Points
Hard Rock, Psych, Folk Doom, Alternative
Nashville, TN, USA
Self-released

This album is a wild conglomeration of influences. I want to call it psychedelic-folk-dungeons-and-dragons rock. This album is not afraid to doom, but it always brings you back to some psyche goodness that feels wild and free. A band needs to be amazing when you come from Nashville and the musicians in Iguanahead deliver. This album is a well written, mature debut. Excellent songwriting and execution make this a unique, precious gem in an ever evolving heavy underground genre.
~ S Patrick Brooks (The Heavy Underground Farm Report, Outlaws of the Sun)

12. GHOSTSMOKER – INERTIA CULT / NEW!
4608 Points
Doom Metal, Sludge, Blackened Doom
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Art As Catharsis

This album is fantastic! I had, and still having, a really good time with it. Their doomed out sound is mixed with sludge and blackened elements, resulting in a massive and abrasive album. It’s more catchy than music of this weight caliber usually is—it is full to bursting with low riffs and sweltering grooves. I love how atmospheric it can be as well, using clean tones to expand the songs or push them in a different direction. Unlike most bands that inject heavy doses of atmo elements in their songs, GHOSTSMOKER doesn’t really ebb and flow like a pendulum going back and forth. Instead, they only give the songs just what they need. The songs aren’t overly long but neither are they short so in many ways they are to the point, with crisp, tight songwriting without being simple or complicated. Everything is just right.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)

11. MUSEUM OF LIGHT – DIVINER / NEW!
5362 Points
Post Rock, Post Metal, Doom, Shoegaze
Seattle, WA, USA
Spartan Records

Heavy as hell, with sensibility and deep emotion, MUSEUM OF LIGHT brings us the most unique and genre bending album so far this year. Face-melting post rock, shoegaze elements, doom…this album has a little bit of everything I love about the heavy underground…and a few unexpected surprises like the spoken word segments, and the stellar vocals. Diviner is a sonic masterpiece; the album flows like a meandering river, weaving its way through the heaviest doom valleys to spectacular psychedelic highlands, peaceful in spots and a raging waterfall filled adventure in other places. A masterpiece of vision and execution, Diviner is beyond brilliant.
~ S Patrick Brooks (The Heavy Underground Farm Report, Outlaws of the Sun)

10. DEAD MEADOW – VOYAGER TO VOYAGER / NEW!
6336 Points
Psychedelic, Rock
Los Angeles, California, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds

VOYAGER TO VOYAGER‘ is a small masterpiece of new-century psychedelia, a work that will endure for years to come, remembered as a beautiful album, a gem of 21st-century psychedelia. Developing their songs in lysergic, cushioned atmospheres, DEAD MEADOW demonstrate that they are experts at using melodies as an element to seduce the listener, making us fall in love with their beautiful, enveloping, honey-flavored songs. A palpable demonstration that stridency is not necessary for success, but that from calm and simplicity, wonderful music can also be created, music that comes from the soul.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)

9. WOOD WITCH – SYNNA MODOR / NEW!
6390 Points
Doom, Stoner Rock, Heavy Metal
Virginia, USA
Self-released

All the doom and metal you could possibly need condensed down into ten bite-sized portions of fist pumping refrain heavy groove. Naysayers will try to tell you that Wood Witch are just putting a different spin on a sound that others pioneered, which to some extent is true, but this does not detract from the enjoyment this album delivers. Our advice is to just ignore those naysayers and immerse yourselves in the sound of a really good band delivering doom in its purest and best loved form.
~ Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist)

8. KADAVERMARCH – KADAVERMARCH / NEW!
6766 Points
Heavy Rock, Metal, Stoner
Copenhagen, Denmark
Vinyltroll Records

We have been aware of KADAVERMARCH as well as massive fans since 2022’s ‘Into Oblivion’. The Danes are back from the void with their self-titled second album with an assortment of heavy rock bangers, metal-tinged tunes, and even a few ballads to balance the record out. KADAVERMARCH walk their own non-linear path, there are twists and turns and ups and downs, but why be predictable? Through the style shifts the formula is simple, the power of the songs and the quality therein. They accomplish this with an accessible album full of continuous hooks, stellar musicianship, and the vocal harmonies we’ve come to know them for.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)

7. ZÅLOMON GRASS – TROUBLE IN TIME / NEW!
6936 Points
Classic Rock, Seventies, Blues, Psych
Vigo, Spain
Discos Macarras Records

Bringing stellar bluesy retro rock on a cosmic level ZÅLOMON GRASS should be a household name or at least much more talked about within the heavy underground. I remember being blown away by their E.P. from years back and since then they have only continued to impress and flourish. Not only is this album an energetic display of artistry but there’s also a certain energy within, it’s a high-spirited rollercoaster ride of vintage sounds and undeniable passion. ZÅLOMON GRASS knows how to formulate memorable songs that flirt with nostalgia and emit a soulful feel-good experience throughout ‘Trouble in Time’.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)

6. TORPEDO TORPEDO – ARROWS OF TIME / NEW!
8820 Points
Heavy Psych, Stoner, Doom, Post Rock
Vienna, Austria
Electric Fire Records

I’ve been eagerly awaiting TORPEDO TORPEDO‘s follow-up to their excellent “The Kuiper Belt Mantras” in 2022, and “Arrows of Time” does not disappoint. The new album sees the power trio leaning further into their psych and post-rock tendencies, and it suits them well. Still maintaining thick fuzz and massive riffs, the overall approach is more melancholy and grace than head-on riff attacks and slogging doom. “Arrows of Time” is an expansive and out-of-this world album, and as early as they are in their musical journey, TORPEDO TORPEDO are clearly headed for the stars.
~ Kyle SB (Good Boy PR, Stoner HiVe)

5. FUZZ EVIL – SMEAR MERCHANTS / NEW!
8900 Points
Stoner Rock, Psychedelic Rock
Arizona, US
Desert Records

FUZZ EVIL is pushing their sound further than ever, discovering their true identity in the process. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just hearing their name for the first time, Smear Merchants is unlike anything they’ve done before. While New Blood leaned into Queens of the Stone Age swagger, this album shatters expectations, forging an entirely new sonic experience—raw, fearless, and completely their own.
~ Ryan Foster (Slightly Fuzzed)

4. NIGHTSTALKER – RETURN FROM THE POINT OF NO RETURN / NEW!
10028 Points
Desert Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Psych
Athens, Greece
Heavy Psych Sounds

Greece’s NIGHTSTALKER don’t have it in them to make a bad album, they are the King Midas’ of the underground, everything they release has a golden hue to it. The bands latest release “Return to the Point of No Return” is no exception it has everything you could hope for from a band whose name has become synonymous with quality, an album that is muscular and meaty when it needs to be and hazy, lush and languid when it doesn’t.
~ Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist)

3. RAINBOWS ARE FREE – SILVER AND GOLD / NEW!
29140 Points
Heavy Psych, Stoner, Doom
Norman, Oklahoma
Ripple Music

No band sounds like RAINBOWS ARE FREE, and no band could have made an album like Silver and Gold except RAINBOWS ARE FREE. This record has everything I love; heavy, psych filled, sometimes sludgy and sometimes not, stoner and/or doom, a ton of melody, and abundance of brightness, amazing guitar work, just the right amount of keys, next level song writing, and a production value that has finally met the size and sound of the band. Silver and Gold should be right there in contention for album of the year, in all of its big, beautiful, colorful, heavy, freaky, psych glory.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip)

2. KAISER – 2ND SOUND / NEW!
39296 Points
Stoner Rock
Helsinki, Finland
Majestic Mountain Records

KAISER’s 2nd Sound hits like a sandstorm of fuzz and thunderous grooves, recalling the first spin of Astroqueen’s Into Submission or Kyuss’s Blues for the Red Sun—but this isn’t just a nostalgia trip. Blending stoner rock with metal and doom, KAISER crafts a sound that’s both crushingly heavy and effortlessly expansive, nailing that elusive desert-cruising vibe. With massive riffs, immersive atmosphere, and bone-rattling weight, 2nd Sound proves KAISER isn’t just following the greats—they’re blazing their own trail through the dunes.
~ Ryan Foster (Slightly Fuzzed)

1. KRYPTOGRAF – KRYPTONOMICON / NEW!
44609 Points
Doom Rock, Progressive Rock
Bergen, Norway
Apollon Records

On their highly-anticipated album Kryptonomicon, Bergen-based doom rockers KRYPTOGRAF embark upon a nautical voyage. The sunny skies and smooth sailing tend to be short-lived, and tempestuous waters carry our minstrels through a hard-fought battle with the water-dwelling inhabitants of the underworld. Blood will be spilled, souls will be claimed, and heavy truths will be discovered, all to the tune of the most beautifully layered rendition of KRYPTOGRAF‘S brand of doomy retro rock yet. In spite of its relative brevity, Kryptonomicon sounds like an album that was developed over a long period of time, gaining odds and ends like a folk tale and aging like a fine wine, allowing intricate details to blossom naturally. Here, KRYPTOGRAF proves that they possess the instrumental aptitude, songwriting prowess, and incredible storytelling abilities to allow them to sail well beyond the horizon into any direction they choose.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)

KRYPTOGRAF returns, keeping the sound that gave them birth intact, in a heavier and more complex, but equally attractive, effort. Focusing on a deeper approach to melodies, KRYPTOGRAF immerses us in a well of heavy vibrations with an evident vintage aroma. Taking progressive elements to give shine to their forceful songs, the quartet confirms that they are not a fleeting band, but a group that delves into their songs so that they have a contemporary aspect, thus moving away from certain conventions that their classic 70s hard-rock songs may suggest.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)

Set your sails and let the gales blow you across the murky warm waters, with KRYPTOGRAF as your captain you will never be lost at sea. Waves of proto-metal riffs, 70’s influence, and progressive structures from below are abundant and crash down upon you and I. There’s a ‘seasoned’ feel to their signature sound, no doubt experience and honing of skills has brought them to new levels with the seven tracks on ‘Kryptonomicon’. Though not rocking the ship too much the second half of the album has a slight deviation from the first, with a more significant feeling of doom and despair. The compositions and song smithing are as sharp as a knife across the board with the blade pointed right at your jugular. We may not know what lies beyond the horizon, but right here right now, KRYPTOGRAF are in top form with an album that will surely be on many end of the year lists!
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
